Unlike other hard tonneaus, the Undercover Truck Bed Cover is made from advanced ABS polymers, making it lighter, stronger and more cost-effective. Plus, the black ABS is specially designed to resist scratching.
The Undercover hard tonneau installs in about 30 minutes with no drilling or measuring. Quick-release hardware means it goes on or comes off in seconds. Once off, the Undercover Truck Bed Cover can be hung up and out of the way with the included wall-mount hardware. Undercover
The Undercover tonneau is lightweight and durable. According to Dave Wells, director of sales for Undercover, “The tonneau is strong enough to hold an entire hockey team.” Quite a feat for any cover. According to Wells, “This characteristic gives both the dealer and the consumer a tonneau that is extremely strong. What does that mean? Low Damage and low returns!”
The Undercover Tonneau was first introduced in 2000 at the TCCA show. As for the concept behind this unique tonneau, Wells explained, “After 20 years in the fiberglass business, we knew that many tonneau owners were complaining about damage to their fiberglass covers. We consistently ran over 15-percent defectives with ours, and we were still considered one of the highest quality covers in the market. “Customers constantly complained about taking the cover off and the hassles of doing so with such a heavy fiberglass cover. Then, when they eventually did manage to remove it, there really wasn’t any great way to store them for a long time. “We started looking at plastic five years ago, but had a lot of technical issues to solve first. We were eventually able to design a durable and easily removable cover. As we said earlier, our rate of returns with this product has consistently run less than one percent, including freight defectives. This is a huge accomplishment. Our distributors are calling us weekly praising how few returns they have.”
The Undercover tonneau is becoming increasingly popular. According to Wells, “The product has become so popular because dealers are requiring more margins in their products to compete. Lower-priced retail products like tonneaus provide great dollars, but until Undercover, those tonneaus required constant replacement and repair dollars.” As for the future of the Undercover Tonneau, Wells said, “We currently sell covers for 97-percent of trucks. We plan to add about five more low-selling models to complete another two-percent of models available. We are also considering several upgrades, including a primer smooth finish, as well as lighting for the covers.”
