Truck bed soft covers, part of the family known as a tonneau cover, constitute a specific type of cover made from soft materials and intended to provide protection for both the bed and any merchandise contained therein. They play a role in making the truck more contoured and sleek while simultaneously creating a covered storage area within the truck's bed. There are many makes and models available today for purchase. Many models come already outfitted with multiple hinged covered openings, folding topd or retractable slats, to accessing the bed's contents as easy as just reaching over the side.
Certain competing truck tonneau covers, called a lift top design, can be raised and suspended in mid-air utilizing metal or fibreglass poles and gas shocks. Quite a few tonneau makes and models retract into a canister mounted at the front of the truck bed.
