Camper shells, also called camper tops, are protective coverings that fit over the bed of a pickup truck. In particular, such an accessory tends to afford a more sleek-look while at the same time providing a concealed depository-like area in the truck bed. A variety of makes and models are available locally or online at a number of reputable retailers. Most camper tops feature hinged-door openings at the tailgate making total truck bed access a breeze.
While various tonneau covers can be raised and hung in mid-air by way of metal or fiberglass shafts, alot like the poles that suspend alot of car hoods straight up, camper-style tops are not as versatile. The same goes for the various tonneau truck cover makes and models that retract into a canister. Many have paneled covers, whereby slats slide back and forth letting truck owners stow or procure belongings from the bed.
