A&R E truck caps, known by some as a fiberglass truck top or tonneau, include any number of snap-on, fiberglass or other lids that camouflage the pickup bed of a truck. To be precise, this truck accessory is designed, or intended, to produce a more aerodynamic truck while instantly providing a capped-off storage space in the cargo area of the pick-up. A variety of makes and models are available locally or online at a number of reputable retailers. It appears most A&R E truck caps are designed with multiple hinged doors, sometimes as many as four, to make it easier to access the entire truck bed without having to climb in.
Certain competing truck tonneau covers are easily lifted up and hung in the air using oem or fiberglass shafts, comparable to the rods that support quite a few car hoods in the opened position. Certain competing tonneau models are retracting. Many exhibit hard paneled tops or lids, where panels move smoothly back and forth letting truck owners stash away or take away stuff from the pickup bed. Other retractable style hoods are assembled from soft textiles like canvas and easily roll up whenever anyone desire to access the the bed's cargo.
A&R E truck caps increase the truck’s wind resistance by reducing "drag", and thus improve the pick-up’s acceleration capabilities. Since fiberglass truck tops secure the truck cargo box, air rushing over the truck doesn't burst into the pickup bed, encountering limited resisting capabilities at the tailgate of the something in the cargo area. At one time, truck operators were given the choice of replacing the factory metal truck tailgate employing a type of plastic net-like barrier to diminish the effects of wind resistance.
While such "tail gate nets" actually cut down on wind resistance, they don't provide the same protection for valuables in the storage area of the pick-up like A&R E truck caps will. A netting is not as solid as the aluminum tailgate and it can deteriorate much more easily. Nets have a tendency to unhook, leaving cargo to be thrown from the truck bed during times when the truck is motoring at highway speeds. Door nettings also cheapen the aura of the truck, making it seem unfinished or broken-down. Fiberglass truck tops afford much more security, while at the same time providing any pick-up a sincerely polished appearance.
